Today STI is one of the most common infections affecting millions of people around the world. It is estimated that about 30% of worlds population has one or other sexually transmitted infections or diseases. Among them, the predominant ones are Genital Herpes, Chlamydia, Oral Herpes, HPV, Genital Warts, Candida yeast infection, Oral Thrush, and Bacterial Vaginosis. These diseases have a pretty bad stigma associated with it. This post is intented to make everyone familiar with the reason for these kind of infections and, how it can be prevented and point out natural treatments that are available for infected persons. Genital Herpes: Infection caused by HSV 2 virus leads to genital herpes. In the US, about 16% of people in the age group of 14 to 49 already have HSV 2 infection. Cold Sores or Oral Herpes: Oral Herpes or cold sores or fever blisters is caused by Type 1 virus or HSV 1. Blisters are apparent and can be seen on lips, nose, chin and other parts of the face. Most HSV 1 infections are often contracted during the childhood years, and many infections go quiet unnoticed as the symptoms can be minor or not apparent. However, please note only a small percentage of oral herpes is sexually transmitted. Often oral herpes is acquired during childhood days when an infected adult kisses a baby (social kissing). Many of this infection acquired are totally without symptoms. Like genital herpes, the infected person may feel as if they have the flu. Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and Genital Warts: There are more than 120 known types of HPV. Some types cause warts on the hands or feet. Other types cause anogenital warts (condylomata acuminate). The types of HPV which causes external genital warts are different from those which causes oral, anal, and genital precancerous changes and cancer. The most common HPV genotypes are 16 and 18 accounting for approximately 70% of all cervical cancers. HPV 16 is also common among women who have no cancer. Shingles: Shingles is a very painful infection caused by varicella-zoster virus (VZV) and belongs to herpes family of virus. It is not a life threatening disease, but it is contagious. candidiasis yeast infection: Candida yeast infection (candidiasis yeast infection) is caused by over growth of fungus Candida albicans. If this over grows then it causes certain type of infection. But a certain type of beneficial bacteria (Lactobacillus acidophilus ) that grows in the intestine usually keeps Candida albicans from growing out of control because they normally feed on Candida albicans. There have been many attempts to find a successful medicinal cure for many of the STI’s like herpes, cold sores and Shingles, but till date, no permanent cure has been found eliminate the virus completly.
